2026 Tax Season

WHAT RCCU Members Need to Know

Tax season doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. At RCCU, we’re here to help you understand what to expect, where to find important documents, and how to make the most of available tax benefits.* This page highlights key information to help you feel prepared and confident as you get ready to file your 2026 taxes.

Your 1099-INT

If you earned interest on your RCCU accounts in 2025, you will receive a 1099-INT form to use when filing your taxes.

Your December 2025 year-end statement will arrive in January 2026. This statement will include your 1099-INT form for the upcoming tax season.

If you are currently enrolled in e-statements, a paper copy of your 1099-INT will not be mailed. If you would prefer to receive a paper copy instead, please contact us.

How to Read Your 1099-INT

The back of a standard 1099-INT form includes “Instructions for Recipient” that explain what each section means and how the information is typically used when filing taxes.

Review the instructions here, or visit the IRS website. This information can help you better understand the tax details shown at the end of your December statement.

Auto Loan Interest Deduction

You may be able to deduct interest paid on certain vehicle loans under the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB). This deduction can be a helpful benefit for eligible taxpayers, but specific rules apply.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, requirements must be met by the taxpayer, the loan, and the vehicle:

  • Vehicle Purchase Date: The new vehicle must have been purchased between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028.
  • Vehicle Condition: Only new vehicles qualify. Used vehicles and leased vehicles are not eligible.
  • Final Assembly Location: The vehicle’s final assembly must have occurred in the United States. This can be verified using the vehicle’s window sticker or the NHTSA VIN Decoder tool.
  • Vehicle Type: Eligible vehicles include cars, vans, minivans, SUVs, pickup trucks, and motorcycles with a gross vehicle weight rating under 14,000 pounds.
  • Personal Use: The vehicle must be used primarily for personal purposes, not business or commercial use.
  • Loan Requirements: The loan must be secured by a lien on the vehicle and issued by a qualified lender, not friends or family. Interest on a qualifying refinanced loan is generally eligible, but only on the remaining original balance.

Because tax situations can vary, it is always a good idea to check with your tax professional to see how this deduction may apply to you.
